Talladega setup -
09-30-2005, 11:32 PM
Mr. Hackmann:
I have a question about the Talladega setup. When I am in a crowd of vehicles, say seventh or eighth, I notice that after the first lap when the speed starts to build, that there seems to be a problem of drifting to the outside when running on the inside line at the tightest turn. This usually occurs at 190 mph or higher. This does not occur when not in a crowd of vehicles. Is this normal and is it the simulated air turbulence in the game caused by the crowd of vehicles that may be causing this problem?
Thank you,
bubba4001

Yes, that's aero push...and there's nothing you can do about it without sacrificing speed (you can't loosen it either as that would make the car too aero loose when you lead a group of cars), so I just deal with it by turning in a bit earlier when I'm in draft.

Volker - thanks for the great setups. I went from being dusted by the AI at 100% to running near the front. I've got one question - is it normal to be unstable slowing down suddenly (like to avoid a wreck)? I've been taking it easy slowing for the pits, but hitting the brakes in an emergency feels like my early days with GPL. Do you use some throttle while braking with your setups?

Yes, if you don't use the throttle under braking, you'll probably loop it with all of my setups...

you'll find the best qual at dega and daytona is all in the line. almost everyone is running the same setup, but the line on ALL 3 LAPS separates the top qualifiers from the rest. Some of the sites sponsor a 100% race sometime during the beginning of the season and they post a replay of the top times/speeds. Do a search and you'll find the missing tenths that you need.

No, trucks need shorter gears at Tallatona as they have no restrictor plates there, and you have to loosen them.

No they don't, although most people probably wish that they would.

VK have you updated your set any sence you posted it? I ran a open setup race online tonight 70 no wind and just had to fight to keep up. I mean I could keep up but not pull out and pass also the setup pushed a little out of the turns and I had to lift off the gass a little. It seamed like I was a little short of HP because others could just dive down under me and pass and all I could do was keep up. Any ideas or adjusted setups?
Thanks Hunter
PS unlike other of your setups I run up front most of the time

Another thing you can try as far as making your car turn better, is adjusting your steering ratio. I usually run my SS stuff at around 22-24:1. I run no assists so it also depends on how you have your wheel calibrated.
