Darlington

Q + R setups and a replay of a qualifying lap (clear 70°F) .
The race setup is very tight again because the car gets more and more loose when the tires wear, just like at Dover and The Rock.

Hi Volker

I just tried your Setups here. I get the same feel here than I do at Atlanta. The setups I would say are tight. I don't feel the roll into the corner as much as I do on other setups. What I mean is your race setup for here and at Atlanta are awesome for the first 10 to 20 laps than after that I don't know if the car gets real neutral or real tight. Though the times are from what I think are good. I don't know if you tried Andreas Wilkes setup for lets say Atlanta but his setup seems to want to roll through the corner regardless of how many laps are on the setup. Your though to me that is seems to require more effort to get the car to turn. I am not complaining because everytime I used your setup in a race. I seem to win. I think I am 3 for 3. Your Darlington setup has the same feel. I am having a bear of a time getting the car to turn yet I think my times are pretty good. I will post them after. Your qual for here is real good. Your qual for Atlanta is the best I have tried. Your qual for Vegas though I can't handle. Either way thx for sharing your setups again.

@Mikey:
Maybe I take more weight away from the RF tire while I'm driving...
At Atlanta, the car would get way too loose after 30-40 laps starting slowly if I loosened it only a little bit. But it works fine if you save your RF tire, I often have situations like RR tire turning yellow on lap 36 and RF on lap 43...
The Darlington race setup is really tight, but from what I've tried so far the car suddenly gets loose after 30 laps when I get back on the throttle in turn 3/4 if I loosen the setup a little.

Yeah, turn 3 and 4 are really tough on worn tires, but you can work around a bit by taking a little more speed into turn 3. This makes you go a higher betwenn 3 and 4 and you can go off the turn with less steering force, so that the you won't get loose that easy when hitting the gas. At least that's the way I worked around during my last league race there, but maybe it's better to fix it via the setup. But on the other hand, running a tight setup around Darlington can make you loose time and quite much rubber of the RF, making you even tighter ...

Just some thoughts, didn't do a lap there for month ...

EDIT: Great, we have a race here in 4 or 5 weeks, I'll give your setup a try for sure, they are really good, thanks for sharing.

Kind of funny, I would compare your sets to Andreas Wilkes' sets also. They have a certain way of turning through the corners that is differenct from Bob Stanleys or other common sets. First off I love em, each new track I grab yours and Mr Wilkes, give each a fair share of laps and go from there. Yours has done better for me for Atlanta, especially for longer runs. So thank you very much for sharing!!

You talked about unloading your RF at Atlanta, how? Just entering the corner less fast and not jerking the wheel left? I try to save the RF but have never had the RR go yellow first, looking for tips.

Lastly, I would LOVE to see you post a few of your race lap sets if possible. the qual one doesn't help as your never off the gas . Just helps me to see the race line and decelration points.

@ Stefan:
I drive that way in qualifying, but entering turn 3 too fast is hard for the tires as well...I think even harder than using a tight setup.

@ Warp1:
I have posted a couple of race laps at Atlanta in the respective thread and I'm posting some for Darlington later.

I have done a lil practice here. Downloaded them just minutes after they were up cause I was eager to get away from Atlanta as soon as possible. Gave yours and that PWF open sets a try. I am clearly faster with yours, but I need more practice though I am all over Darlington at the moment. The usual liftandgentlypressbrakeandtecarturnsinbyitselfvolk erhackmann-feeling is here too. . Sometimes I think it´s more important that a set is comfortable and relaxing to cruise around in than it´s being fast.

I am not skilled enough to drive any of your qual sets (or any one elses qual-sets) so I wonder what kind of laptimes do you get through a stint with this race set ?

I wait for one of my league's admins to upload the results of yesterday's training, then I can post lap times of a long run. The only lap times I remember were 29.0s on 2nd and 3rd lap and the first 30.0 after 26 laps. (I started quickly as it was only a 37 lap stint.)

Where did you post the race laps replays in the Atlanta thread? In your first post included in the zip file (says last updated in Jan 04) or after post 68? I can't find it.

Thanks

No, on page 2 of that thread. *g*

IIRC that are still laps with an older version of my setup (higher revs, less tape), but the handling wasn't different.

Volker,

I found that the setup tightened rather than loosened as the fuel load lightened. The race conditions were Clear, 83 degrees F. Tire wear seemed good, never got RF higher than 235 and both front and rear wore pretty evenly. Started each run in the 29.1 -.2 range. Maybe a weight adjustment would help? It seemed like it had more in it if the right adjustments were made.

Your setups have brought my online racing career back to life BTW. Thanks.

Mikey_g.................try taking the steering ratio in garage from 32 to 25-27 see how the roll thru corners treats you then please?. helps me alot, just curious if it helps you obtain that better feel thru the corners.

also if im not mistaken increasing the caster split will help you get thatfeel of throwing your car around the corner if that makes any sense, lol.
