Thanks for setups on Darlington. Me and my teammate used your setups last night, I got the pole, teammate was 2nd. I led most laps, and won the race while teammate was 2nd. Totally dominating perfermance to say the least.

Again my thanks.

Thanks a lot Derek (and Volker). The racesetup worked even better for me than the latest VH. I only changed brakebias to 60% and tape to 60% for 70 clear. The car also stays pretty neutral in the long run when the tires start to wear

VH, I normally do very well with your setups as a starting point. Often try to tweak on them, then have to return to your come race time because I can't do any better, at least not for a long run. Reading through here I see that I should be keeping the RF tire temp around 215 deg or so, but I don't see how you can run those lap times without getting it around 225-230? And according to your 5L replay, you don't even blip the throttle in turn 1/2 like I have to to get the car to turn. Then, it gets tight and my times drop off after 10 laps or so. I would post a run, but I get so tight I crack the wall off of turn 4 before I can get 15 laps in. Any help would be appriciated.

I don't remember any tire temperatures, I did my last laps at Darlington half a year ago...

The setup is tight indeed, that's the only way too avoid getting loose out of turn 4 with worn tires (I'll probably adjust the shocks before my next race here, that might help a bit, but I'll still have to use a pretty tight setup I think). I can't tell you what's different about our lines of course, but I think you might enter the turns a bit too hot and get back on the throttle too early (i.e. before the nose has started to turn down towards the apron).

Thanks for the set Derek, used it in a pickup 56 lapper this morning....changed brake bias to 74(those lower settings i just dont like, rear wants to come round under heavy braking)....averaged 160.89 over the run, and was still running 154's at end...pretty darn good i think....smoked the field

Is it the norm here too that the second qualifying lap is way slower?

It would be realistic, it should be like that at every track except Daytona, Talladega and the short tracks.

The 2nd qual lap is way slower on all the tracks with high tire wear, that includes Atlanta, Fontana, Chicagoland, Darlington, Kansas, Las Vegas, Lowe's, The Rock, Texas (if you run both laps hard instead of cruising around first lap 3 seconds off pace in order to have a better speed and still fresh tires going into lap 2).

As you said, the 2nd lap is always way faster on SS, and both laps are about equal (within a tenth) on all the other standard tracks (not sure about Indy / Pocono where you always blow up on lap 2 anyway, though).

Wow! way to go Volker, Darlington sets ROCK! I've been playing with Derek's sets for a few days, super fast for him [thanks Derek], but a little loose off T4 for me . Tried several things to tighten them off, but your latest post hits the nail on the head for me. Not a rocket yet, but running Q's in the 28.4 range. Need to dial in my entry to T3, braking is everything here.

Thanks - 05-12-2005, 02:47 AM

Volker I just wanted to say Thanks for the very best setup I've ever used at Darlington. I should have won but I screwed up and still ended up with a 2nd place. I used to hate this track but your setup made it fun.
Thanks Chop
