i need some tips on how to finish a race... anyone?.. anyone?

btw. real nice setups Volker The majority of the time, it seems people just won't beat you with your own sets. a few times i've had success when i've used my own (thats the best feeling!) but still wouldnt consider them "worth releasing" as yours clearly are. i even hear the other gurus out there use yours!

Very nice setup. My RF turns yellow on lap 28. Does that sound about right. I have a bit of a push from middle of Turn 1 out. Other than that. It is rock solid. I ran pick up race and won by 10 seconds.

Also, is the link provided to download the setup contain all of the changes you noted in the thread?

Thanks
David

Hi David,
yes, before I announce an update, I delete the old setups in the first posting and replace them by the latest ones.

Lap 28 sounds a little bit too early for me, try to keep the RF tire temperature at about 235°F or less. Just run a little slower in the center of the turns and the push exiting turn 1 will also be gone. 2 or 3 mph is often enough and it won't cost you much time as you'll be able to run a shorter line and take out more speed on the following straight.

Good point. My RF is about 10 deg hotter than that. I think that is because I'm driving in way to deep. About how many laps should I be shooting for before my RF turns yellow?

Thanks,
David

About 35 laps oughta be OK if you start with 31.2s w/o draft.

I saw in your Atlanta thread that you posted a 5 lap run in race trim. Anyway I could talk you into doing one for Vegas?

Thanks,
David

Maybe a little faster than usual, though...

Thank you very much. I had modify the qual setup a bit to get close to your 30.5 lap speed. Car was way to loose in middle of 1 out. I moved weight forward 2 clicks and I'm able to turn a 30.6 consistently. I'll take that.

Thanks again for you setups. They are very fast out of the box.

VH - I have a small tip for you (pales in comparison to your setups) Anyway, I ran a Qual time of a 30.585 and compared my lap to your 30.595 in the Replay Analyzer. I was amazed that at every split, you were faster until the last 25%. You were still were better than me thru T3 and T4 but, I more than made up the difference b/c out of T4 I went down on the apron to the SF and edged you out by 10/1000 I bet you can at least better your Qual to a 30.560. Hope this helps you.

Thanks
Joe

I know it is faster that way, but I prefer running my laps ON the track, not BESIDE it.

I just gave it a try and ran a 30.541 using the apron (the replay is attached at the beginning of this thread). That lap was really good, I compared it to my best "clean" lap (30.587) and I think it would've been a 30.57x if I hadn't cut the apron. So the difference is about 0.03 or 0.04 seconds which is really a lot if you ask me.

Very nice lap!!! I wasn't too far off based on your original Qual lap. I think the apron is part of the track and it is there if we need it. This not like cutting across the grass at Daytona to shave off 4/10 of a sec. The Cup guys do this here and Michigan if I remember correctly...probably some other tracks as well.

I need to work on my consistency now...I run a .5 then three .7's and a .8,

Thanks again

Joe

All the changes you made to the weight and gears are they updated with your newest zip file posting?

Thank you so much for sharing your setups. I was so disgusted after
working for hours on my own and only achieving a PB of 31.355 and not
being able to easily reproduce that, then going online and seeing people
doing 30.5s.

Now I have lowered my PB 31.128 with your race setup and 30.699
with your qual setup after only 45 minutes of studying your replays
and practicing with your setups.

What is even more important to me is that I see now that my
race setup was not that far off. I was just driving in too deep
and not placing enough emphasis on getting back to the gas early.
This prevented me from making the correct final tweaks I needed.

I should have known better (in the back of my mind I did) because
one hears the TV commentators during the races (Larry Mac)
say so often that drivers are getting back to the gas before the center
of the turns.

But I did not have the confidence to alter my line since I did not
know if the problem was me or my setup. So now having your setups
and replays has changed the way I will be driving and building my
own setups.

And of course, I tried saving replays from online to study them
but since you cannot see the gas and brakes in that case I did
not find it very beneficial in helping me understand how to alter
my own setups.

What is very gratifying is that your race setup is very driveable,
even for a somewhat mediocre driver like myself (I still am not
negative in GPL ). I must admit that it will take me much more
practice with the qual setup to be able to do 30.6s consistantly
without fear of wrecking. But I would not have had the confidence
in my own setup to even practice enough with it.

I have been an admirer of Greger for several years. Now I
have another hero - you!

Thank you so much again...

VH---Just wanted to say thanks for the great setups. I am new driver to nr2003. Used to race N3 and win all the time, but since i got back into sim racing (NR2003) has been a challenge to stay competive. I find if move weight forward 1 or 2 clicks on you setups, then I can run with just about anyone. without spinning. JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS SBL
