UPDATE
I softened the front springs of the race setup for clear weather and moved 10 lbs back.

P.S.
I've put both clear and cloudy setups into one zip file.

Volker- Looking at the 5-lap replay, do you really run it that hard every lap? Or were you just hot lappin it?

I wasn't running hard at all I think...well, maybe a little on the last lap, but overall that is a pace I would also run at the beginning of long races if the drivers around me want to run it as well.
Hotlaps would break the 29 seconds barrier easily.

volker, what changes would you make, if any, to better yourself tirewear wise on a fuel run?

Drive slower...if I knew any further setup tweak to improve tire wear, you can be sure that I would already have used it.

This set works great for a full fuel run, run hard at qual to get pole, then just stay out front during race, only push as fast as needed to stay in lead.Should run 1/3 of fuel run before RF goes yellow and another 1/3 before LF and RR tires go yellow, times will fall off about a second each 1/3. Very competitve set.

Hi Volker, and everyone else who uses these amazing setups. This might surprise you guys, but I'm one of the few Mac racers out here. We haven't had 03 to use nearly as long as you cats on the PC side.. but we love it just the same. Volker, you are absolutely the MAN at providing top quality setups. I use them weekly and have tried all kinds of other setups posted by other setup "gurus".. but yours take the cake. We ran our league's All Star Race last Thursday, a 60 lap final with no yellows. I qualified on the pole and went on to win by 18 seconds over the 2nd place car. I took it easy on tires and gas and didn't have to pit. When I was done I had yellow LF, RF and RR ties and still green on my LR. Thanks for being cool enough to post your setups for others to use!

this is a great setup but i couldn t get on the gas as soon as some other guys i ve been racin can so i added some more rear spring to help in the center of the corner.that done the trick but it made me a little tight going into turn 3.how can i stop this without losing in the middle of the corner?

I say leave the set the way you downloaded it, watch the replay VH gave us on page 2 of this thread. It's a 5 lap practice replay. Watch that replay from the helicopter view to get your line. You'll notice that coming into T3 you'll followthe race line (keep it tight in the groove)...let off the gas to 1/4 throttle just before entering T3 and feather it till you hit about 174-176 mph. About mid corner or start of T4 nail it and you'll notice the back end pitch just a little. Should be able to do that for about 1/3 of fuel run. Don't be afraid to let your horse power turn the car. T1 is a little different...you want to take that corner a little wider. Should be able to run about 178-180 mph through T1 & T2.

I can make my tires last about 40 laps but the RF and RR go yellow at the same time (within a lap or two). I can run another 15 or so laps before all 4 are yellow. Volker, what are your thoughts on tire wear? How long should they be lasting? If you tell us a full fuel run I'm never racing again j/k
Thanks,

You might be pushing it too hard after lap 40, the key is to baby it untill the LF front goes yellow so you get equal grip in the front again. That should allow you L/R tire to stay green to the end of run

Well, it always depends on what kind of pace you run...
If the whole field starts slowly (mainly 29.1s, 29.2s or even slower) and if I don't start pushing it until lap 30 or sth., the RR tire will turn yellow after 36 or 37 laps and the RF about 5 laps later. I don't know if the LR tire turns yellow or not, I only care about the right sides and start running hard when I can make use of it...for example to catch a draft, to pull away from the cars behind me while they are running 2 wide etc.

Wow I knew I was slow but now I see I am way off. Any advice for someone who runs mostly in the 29.5's on good tires? I can get some 29.3 and 1 or 2 29.1 (all times in practice no draft), but after 20 laps I am upper 29 and starting to smack the walls on turn exit.

I have studied the 5 lap replay and compared my best laps to it with Replay Analyzer and my lines are fairly close except I can not hug the bottom as well as you do in 2. My times just dont compare (never ripped off 5 consecutive laps at any time above 29.5) and the tire wear seems high for me. I do love the setup and thank you for it!! I am sure the issue is me, my line or equipment. I run with no aids, a tsw2 wheel @ 40% linearity and the setups steering ratio. Any hints/help is much appreciated

VH - Your gear seems a bit short...my oil was at 225 in a hurry and the rev light comes on in the draft on both stretches. Have you done a long run in a draft? Thanks

I suppose you don't lift enough at the entries...lift the throttle (almost) completely, that helps to turn the car with very little steering.

Both is perfectly OK.

Not a complete long run, but the first 15 or 20 laps of it starting very fast (28.8s and .9s). The oil temperature reached up to 230°F for a few laps, but there was no warning light, so I think that's OK.

Got it. I still might run just a but taller to be on the safe side. My fuel run drop off is only about 1 sec so I should be OK with a slightly taller gear.

Oh yea, your lift more comment makes me wonder if I'm not lifting enough on entry and therefore causing excessive RF wear. I only get to lap 36 when my RR and RF go yellow and that is running .3's early on....when I run .1's I lose about 3 laps of wear. My thought is by not lifting enough I'm having to steer more by turning the wheel as opposed to the car "turning on its own." Worth a try anyway.

Thanks for the info.

what do you run after 30 or 40 laps with that set vh? Do you ever go into the 30's?
