i'm in need of some guidance here. I hope it's not too much to ask I see these smoking times and just don't see how you guys are doing them w/out burning off your tires. Maybe i'm driving in too deep or off too hard.. I don't know.. I have a 6 lap replay of my laps if you'd be so kind to look at and tell me what i'm doing wrong or where the most improvement would come from.. not looking for a miracle just some tips. I'm using the stock track w/ the standard CUP series files no mods and VH's latest set. Thanks fella's much appreciated...

Chris

You mainly seem to be too careful...
You turn in too early for T1 and the panultimate corner, and you don't cut the chicane as much as you could do, but as far as the rest if concerned, your line looks clean. Most of the time is lost by braking extremely early (you can definitely brake later and harder than that), as well as just not getting back on the throttle properly, you're up to full throttle exiting turn 2 and exiting the outer loop up to 300 feet later than me, a bit less but yet quite notable off the other corners. Also, you don't use the throttle at all under braking, are you using a higher brake bias value, or do you brake that careful as you would lock up the rear wheels and spin otherwise? And finally, there's no need to lift on upshifts, the cars have rev limiters that can't wait to be used.

First and foremost thank you for your prompt reply and constructive criticism as it is much needed in my case ...reason behind the ease w/ the brakes is due to locks on either the LR or RF on entry.. I am now currently using a 65% bias and it seems to have helped it.. where i'm having issues now seems to be excessive corner roll mainly in the esses ... question on the upshifting.. would that not increase my chance of losing a gear or more? thanks again

Not if the gaps between the gears are rather small (which is the case with my setups) and if you rev each gear up to just under the rev limit (9200 RPM), so that would be 9000 RPM or more.

I'm about to take a look at your 1:11.xxx lap, VH. I feel like I'm pushing as hard as I can and my best is a low 1:13. I also seem to really roll the car on the outside rear tire. I'm not sure if that's bad or if it's my style, but it doesn't allow me to mat the throttle exiting the corners.

BTW, thanks a bunch for all your work. It's helped me and I'm sure a lot of others.

1.11.168

That's my best lap so far.
Still wondering how to downshift gears as smooth as VH does.

"Still wondering how to downshift gears as smooth as VH does."
If you look closely at many of Volker's replays where he does some shifting you will notice that he often skips a gear on down shifts. I'm suspecting that he has buttons addressed for the gears and therefore direct shifting is possible. So stand on the brakes, use trailing throttle and go for second from fourth gear.

That's indeed how I've assigned my gears, but the only place where I skip one is braking for T1 (4 => 3 => 1), entering the other corners I go down through all the gears as well. I don't use auto clutch though, maybe that is the difference?

Well finished 4th last Monday w/ a few mods to your set there Volker. Mainly to the brake bias (just a matter of taste for me) the biggest help though was your tips on the driving line I cut my times by atleast a full second if not more simply by following your suggestions. Much appreciated by what you do for the racing community.

Thanks for the great setup. Wondering what changes you would make for 85F and clear?

Thanks

45 or even 40% tape, maybe a click up on diff, and 2 clicks up on the track bar.

hi volker,

Hi Volker

Thanks for the sets, they're awesome.

Just one question: During a race (40% long, realistic damage) what's the best way to cross the chicane? I found that after some laps, if I cut the first kink through the kerb I got some damage (repair YES on the F9 screen), so I'm a bit confuse on what's the best way to be fast there but avoiding damaging the car.

Thanks in advance

When will the truth be revealed? stay tuned for the next time LxMartini shits out of his mouth.

Wow, that's what I call racing in the air...

And by doing such an aggressive trajectory, don't you damage your car?
