Realistic weather - 06-24-2005, 09:22 PM

Hey all, first time posting long time lurker. I have a question regarding the effects temperature has on a setup and some basic things to adjust for that on the setup. I have been racing online for just over a year and the first year the group I race with used the fixed weather of 70 and sunny. Now to make it more changeling we have decided to use realistic weather settings. I use Volker’s setups, which are great setups by the way, thanks Volker for all your hard work. Since I will not know what the weather will be like for the race until we start are there any basic rule-of-thumb changes you guys make to adjust from the 70 and sunny base that was used to create the setup?

For example, if it is cooler do this/warmer do this, sunny do this/cloudy do this. I thought I saw someone a while back saying for every X degree difference adjust this by X number of clicks, but cannot recall or find where this was.

Any help for a beginner is greatly appreciated.

rule of thumb - 07-08-2005, 12:38 AM

I too would like a general rule of thumb. 1st we should know were the term "Rule of Thumb" derived from. the term refers to the size of stick you could beat your wife with if she misbehaved during the 1800's in England. The stick could be no larger in diameter than your thumb. The law no less, was called Rule of the thumb.

Back to the question:

IF a set up is made for 70F clear, and it is 79F and clear on the servers track:

would you move the weight back or bring the weight forward?
Drop or raise the track bar?
soften or stiffin rear or front springs?
I would at least open tape from 60% to 55% if it is close to 220F on engine

I would like some help in this catagory as well.

Depends on the track.

Neither on most tracks, but if you want to give it a try soften them of course.
