long green run setup question - 04-03-2005, 03:53 AM

this may sound stupid but here it is: at 70.deg what setup steps would you take to turn a mid run car setup into a long run setup.besides driving style?
in league races theres almost no yellows and im good for about mid run then i have to start driving by my rf tire temps instead of lap times or standings.would you try taking alot of weight off the nose or what. hope this made some sense

thanks

Imo, a good race setup is good for both mid and long runs...for me, there is no difference between those. A sprint setup is usually a bit looser, but that's about it.

P.S.
I don't understand this sentence:
"im good for about mid run then i have to start driving by my rf tire temps instead of lap times or standings"
Doesn't make sense imo...well, or maybe we have different definitions of mid and long runs. On a classic 1.5 mile cookie cutter track, I'd call up to 20 laps a sprint, 20-40 laps a mid run and 40+ laps a long run.
If you need tire temps as an indication for how hard you're running, you'd better have a look at them in the early stages of your stint. After the mid run is completed, there's only 20/25 laps left until you have to pit for fuel, so there's no need to take care of your tires anymore.

my interpatation of mid run is also around 30 laps, after that my R.F. gets too hot (250+) i dont feel like im plowing in to the corners, cause i usually always lift early and drift it into the corners till mid corner then ease back into the throttle. i dont try outrunning everyone at the start but try to just stay behind them till they make a mistake (Hopefully). Temps look good up till 20 - 25 laps then she starts rapidly climbing,by the time i feel it start developing a significant push- too late temps are already up there, thats where i click i think its "F4" and start waching my tire temps and getting way off the throttle a little earlier befor entering turn and not picking it back up till mid to late exit.i do that for about 3 laps then im able to pick it up for about 3 laps ect. by that time there gone. a whole straightway ahead and pulling away further. evidently my setups (if no cautions) are junk!. thats why im here, ive been reading everybodys posts to and about you and your setups,so i felt it was time to ask for help and or advice since i dont have as much time as some others to get my setups just right.Bristol is a place where i really have a hard time-really good midway through a fuel run, after that it turns to junk in a hurry. on those short tracks,in a good league,i found that if your setup gives up on you half way through a fuel run, with no cautions your in trouble.

by the way What does "IMO stand for? i could never figure that out and just now decided to ask.

thanks for the reply,much appreciated

Hi..
I'm having the same issue... I have a great setup for the first 25 - 40 laps.... depending on the track, than there I go, backwards and struggling with 6th through 8th place cars. Humbling. (This includes running conservatively those first 25 - 40 laps)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue, or is this the secret ingredient that the top dogs in the circuits figure we need to learn for ourselves??

I don't have a problem with that actually....

Thanks.

actually in this game you can get away with evil camber setups and still be good at long runs
