Question Road Course Setups for CUP - 04-23-2004, 10:50 AM

Hello from Minnesota, USA.

First off, I would like to thank you gentlemen for providing such a great resource to the online racing community. I have been playing the Nascar simulator series for about 5 years, the last 2 years I have been very active in a league named USRA that runs the Cup schedule, but with fixed setups. A few months ago I invited a subset of the drivers in our league to start a new league (which I named LIPS for Low Incident Point Series) and have moved it to open setups.

Although many of us have turned quite a few laps, myself over 35,000, we are still pretty ignorant about setting up the cars ourselves. I have directed many of the drivers to your forums for assistance in learning about setups, and to use the sets you guys have provided. It has become a matter of fact for us to talk about "which" setup from this resource we are using.. although we do find the Intimidator WAM setups, and the PWF setups to be pretty good also.

My league is running a hybrid schedule. and we are experiementing with a format that has 6 races in each segment.. a short track, mid range, flat, fast, circle D 1.5 mile, and a road course in each segment.. the thought being that each segment will have a track of each type and the segment champion will be the best driver at ALL kinds of tracks.. not just a super speedway guy, or a circle D 1.5mile guy

Herein lies the challenge... there are only 2 RC on the Cup schedule, so we have expanded to some of the RC's being used in the TA mod.. but very few of them have any CUP setups. We are running Mosport, Papy, Daytona RC, and Karjala in the next few series... Mosport is in two weeks!!

Have any of you folks worked on a CUP setup at Mosport? I have been scouring the electronic countryside and have not been able to find any. Perhaps we will be stuck using the "fast" setups.. but am hoping there is somone (more capable than I) who has some CUP setups for some of the "traditional" TA tracks...

thanks in advance for reading, and any replys would be greatly appreciated.

Although not cup cars, me and a few online buddies have been racing the new '88 mod on RC. my best advice to you would to be find a good setup you like for the glen, take any weight bias out of it and give it a run. for a track like mosport with some sharp turns, you might wanna put the weight back a little, for somewhere faster like silverstone try moving it forward. What im tryin to say is once you have a suspension setup ur happy with, just mess with the weight bias to suit each course. good luck with you endevours

Dont forget to lower the brake bias as well. Ive seen far too many RD sets where the brake bias was just too high. By moving wieght to the rear and lowering the braking bias the car will turn better into the turns, play with it a bit and you will also have to adjust springs to hit it right. Also it could be driving style that hurts you..fast in is almost always slower exit so use the Gant method and you will do fine..just my opinion but i have all but dominated our leagues trans am div..
