Silverstone PWF

Hello, I'm back again.

Today's track is Silverstone. I don't like this track too much, in my opinion is a boring track cause it kinda repeats itself on and on. Anyway, I decided to test it today because I know it really well already and it's a well used track.

So, here comes the "quick guide" for this track.

First of all it's important to do the last corner well in your opening lap, at least have a high exit speed cause that's free gain time. You'll open the lap from 4th to 5th gear and will keep the 5th until the first corner. It's important for corner 1 to brake as late as possible, it normally doesn't affect your exit too much, and manage your throttle/brakes well to brake the car and have a stable car when you are down to 2nd gear. Keep the car as close as possible to the internal wall, that way you'll have "more track" to have a full gas exit on 2nd gear. Just after exiting the corner you'll move up to 3rd gear, 4th gear and then 5th gear before corner 2. It's a easy flat left corner, no tricks, just keep a good line and that's 5th gear all over. Corner 3 is a little bit harder. It's a hard braking with a not fully stable car, as you are just after a conversion from right side to the left side of the track. As well you can't brake the car too much cause it's a 2-leg long corner, and it's important to carry good speed thru it. It's a 2nd gear corner as well. Just try to manage a good speed thru the whole corner using your brake/throttle, without going too wide in the exit. It's not easy to do it fast, but it's all about carrying the right speed inside - not more, not less. Just after the exit you'll cross the track again to it's right side for corner 4. It's a flat left corner - very similar to corner 2 - but a little harder. It's a 4th gear corner. It has to be done flat, it's all a matter of following a good line. Just after this one you'll have a long straight reaching 6th gear for the first time, at around 180mph before a very hard braking. It's a straight braking, shifting down from 6th to 2nd gear. That corner is important to manage throttle/brakes very very well, cause you really have to brake the car a lot and you'll shift down to 2nd gear already turning-in the corner, so you'll want a very stable car there. Similar to corner 1, it's pretty much the same line - keep close to internal wall, and then a full gas exit on 2nd gear. Another straight reaching up to 5th gear before another braking. That's corner 6 now, a 2nd gear corner (just like most others). That corner you'll need to brake very very late, and get thru the corner sliding the car managing throttle/brakes well to keep a good wheelspin without losing too much speed. There's an internal area that looks like a good option to pass thru, but it's not worth because you'll probably get some grass after it, causing an understeer that will push you to the outside grass as well. Sometimes passing 1 wheel only (RF) up there is OK, but not more than that. Up to 3rd, then 4th gear before corner 7 - that's a very fast left hander. It can't be done flat (not at least with the current setup). It's a technical corner, you can win a lot there having a good exit speed. I just lift the throttle a little bit to get the front down some and then full throttle again thru it. That internal area can be used, but it's not at the same level as the track so it can change the car balance. Anyway, the good thing is to have full throttle thru it so you'll have more downforce in case you climb up that internal area. You know that you did it well when your rev limiter lights are blinking in 4th gear in the exit. Another straight, up to 5th and then 6th gear before last corner. Last corner is very important - and very strange as well. It's a long right hander in 4th gear. I said it's strange because the start/finish line is just after the exit of the corner, so what matters there in a Qualifying lap is to carry a lot of speed thru the corner. In a Race or a sequence of laps, it's a completely different story there. Back to the lap, you'll need a good throttle/brake work there to carry a good speed without missing the track line. Just keep the car close to the internal curb at all times and try to have a good wheelspin to help the car turn with more speed. And that's it, the lap is done.

As I said before, this track is boring cause it looks like you are re-doing it all the time. Little straight, 2nd gear corner, fast left-hander - and it follows that way. The good places to win time here are corner 3 and the last 2 corners - that's where you can win/lose a lot only with details.

About the car setup, I think it's pretty balanced already. The traction is very good, you can almost push the throttle down right away on 2nd gear corner without risk. I think that going in a more oversteer direction with the setup might be even better, but I'll try this some other time - maybe affects traction too much, then it's not worth it.

As always - Weather Clear, 70ºF no wind, with Full Fuel Tank (22gl).

So, here's the replay + setup...
