Kyalami PWF

Hi once again, here I come with a new upload.

This time it's Kyalami, a track I like very much cause of it's different kinds of corners.

Once again, a "quick guide" will follow the upload.

Starting the lap I put up 6th gear just before start/finish line, so that you don't lose shifting time inside your real fast lap. Arriving at around 196mph for the first corner, a hard braking dropping gears from 6th to 2nd. As you'll arrive very fast and the braking is not in a downhill anymore, you'll be carrying a lot of downforce. You must use this downforce as much as possible to brake the car in first part of the braking - that means a very hard braking in the beggining, with a lot of pressure, and no throttle use. When you reach to 3rd gear you are already turning-in the corner- then you can manage thr throttle togheter with the brakes to shift 2nd gear down. It's a pretty long corner that gets tighter in the exit, so the good line is to keep the car in middle track for the entrance and mid-corner and close to a more internal line for a full gas exit. After that you'll have a little straight reaching 3rd gear. Corner 2 is an easy-right. It can be done using both 2nd or 3rd gear - I prefer 2nd gear cause it's easier to slide the car inside the corner. The curbs here in Kyalami are very strange, cause they are wide and high. If you hit the curbs there with a single wheel, you'll have a lot of oversteer and loss of traction- the right thing to do is to easily climb up the curb with 2 internal wheels. If you get the internal curb well, it's flat out after that. Going up, 3rd gear, and 4th gear just before the easy-left corner (corner 3). It's an easy flat corner, just get the front close to the internal curb and you'll have no problems in doing it. Corner 4 has many ways to do it, and you can't win or lose too much there doesn't matter how you do it. I arrive in 4th gear and change a quick downshift for 3rd gear already in turn-in, managing throttle and brakes togheter to get the right slide movement. It's just important to have a good line for a full gas exit without forcing the line there, cause you'll have to move all back to the right side of the track for the next corner. Doing that, you'll reach corner 5 in 3th gear, high revs, in a hard brake moving it down to 1st gear. It's important there to have a straight line braking to stop the car well - that's why a good exit in the corner before. I normally do a turn-in more in middle track and I close to a more internal line to the exit - it's a late apex corner, since the track is tight in the exit. Up to 2nd gear until it reaches the rev limiter - there's no use to switch up to 3rd gear there. It's an "S" here, with a longer exit corner and a small straight after that - that means you must give priority to a better exit and not a better entrance. Just stick close to the internal curb in the left-hander, and working on throttle only for a good exit, flat out on the right-hander, all using 2nd gear. Up to 3rd gear again for the small straight before the last corner. That's a late apex corner as well, and the exit is crucial as you'll have a very long straight to follow. Although, it doesn't mean that you must be calm on braking, cause it's a long corner and the apex is in fact very late. I do a turn-in braking there (late braking), shifting down to 2nd gear while managing throttle/brakes. Keeping the car always at middle track until mid-corner is a good idea. After that, you'll close in a late apex for a full gas exit on 2nd gear, and that's it. Manage the exit line well, you can lose a lot of time if you have too much wheelspin there. And then full throttle up until you close your lap. That's it!

That was a good lap, no mistakes. I bet I can do better adding a little bit more of negative camber on the front wheels for an easier response, specially in the middle sector. It's a matter of test it.

As always - Weather Clear, 70ºF no wind, with Full Fuel Tank (22gl).

So, here follows replay + setup...

Hey Fernando!!! I've heard alot about you, it's great to see you here!! Your a legend over at the hotlaps.de site and it's great to see you sharing your secrets of speed! Also a real racer (WOW !!)

I checked out your Kyalami replay and setup and I must say the setup is real nice, I got a 1:19 right away with it. But I wonder is this your real hotlap setup, or is this for race conditions? I only ask because I was racing online at Kyalami and I was only able to make it up to about 192mph at the end of the straight, but another guy who said he was using your 'real' setup was going much much quicker down the straight. I attached a clip below as you can see he was going several mph quicker down the straight than me and i tried to make my setup go faster in a straight line but i cant seem to do it! I hope you are not posting a dumbed down version of your setup for us, if so please give us the real deal. we can handle it !! (or die tryin LOL). thanks Bill

Hi Bill - 01-23-2005, 06:31 AM

Hi Bill, first of all thanks for the compliments!

Well, that's a very strange story - I must say.

The setup I use for Qualifying (and used for this replay lap) is exactly the same I posted up here. Honestly, there is no other setup of mine - no "real" setup too. That guy might have only joking or something, all possible setups from me will be displayed here only.

It's strange too because there's not much to do in that kind of track to gain or lose that kind of speed in the straights. Maybe taping the car some more or taking wings down, but it's not worth it. I managed 195mph in my lap, so you are really a bit under that. I am sure is not a matter of car setup, maybe try to re-calibrate your pedals. It happens to me sometimes (I use Logitech MOMO Force Feedback wheel) that the throttle pedal stops working on 100%, and I have to re-calibrate it again. That's all I can tell you at the moment.

I hope it helps you for now...

If you still have the same problem, try sending me a full lap replay of yours in a Testing Session - I'll try to understand it.

LOL
Ok, that's nuts!

That's a Computer Car driving 360mph - you are crazy!

Anyway, your speed might be slower cause you are shifting gears lifting the throttle.

I hope it helps - but you'll never reach that speed, sorry
